Children’s Week 2021

Children’s Week 2021

Children’s Week (23-31 October) is a national celebration that recognises children’s talents, skills, achievements, and rights.

The theme for Children’s Week 2021 celebrates the right of all children to choose their own friends and safely connect with others. This is based on Article 15 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

With current coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions, Children’s Week celebrations at West Gippsland Libraries are being offered online this year. There are a number of fun online activities that will be available via social media and on the website during the week.

To celebrate Children’s Week, we decided to go straight to the source and ask some very special kids some questions about what friendship means to them. A very big thank you to the children and staff from Karmai Community Children’s Centre for their help in producing this video.

  • Cosy up on the couch or around the kitchen table, grab some snacks and put your smarts to the test with the Trivia Extravaganza with Lisa D and Heather. The session has trivia questions designed for kids, with accompanying answers. You can play along on your own or the whole family can join in.
  • Get creative with Draw with Julie-Anne. In these sessions, Julie-Anne shows us how to create your favourite characters like Hairy Maclary, Bluey and Spot the Dog.
  • Do you love storytime? Join Tim for a special story about two unique friends.

Our Children’s Week online program has been generously supported by South Gippsland Shire Council, Baw Baw Shire Council, Bass Coast Shire Council, and the Victorian Department of Education and Training.
