Books By Us update #1

Books By Us update #1

A Books By Us update from program facilitator Michelle.

We’re only in Week 3 of Book By Us but already we’ve managed to overcome a lockdown and the illness of Books By Us presenter-in-chief, Nansi Kunze!

But as the saying goes, when COVID-19 serves you lemons, make lemonade!

Plucky Nansi Zoomed in the session from home and the wonderful students of Loch Primary School being a resilient, hard-working bunch, were able to pick up where they left off.

In this week’s session, the students were asked to make the tough decision between writing a non-fiction or fiction book. I can tell you, non-fiction was the clear favourite here at Loch Primary School! You can look forward to some seriously good non-fiction including a joke book (complete with a Dad Joke section), a biography on Michael Phelps, a how-to book on BMX riding and maintenance and all you’ll ever want to know about Volkswagen Kombis, just to name a few.

Our fiction writers are planning to write about kidnappings, Aussie-girl-esque adventures and even a tale of a rich but evil ex-basketballer who pits NBL players against AFL players in a dangerous game of revenge!

Don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to read the final product! Stay tuned for more updates.

The Books By Us program is offered for free to schools and is funded by West Gippsland Libraries, the Victorian Writers’ Centre and the Grace Marion Wilson Trust. The program aims to promote community literacy, build an ongoing relationship between schools and libraries, and foster a sense of purpose in students’ learning. Find out more here.
